Stavanger is known as the Oil Capital of Norway, which will bring many to think of a town with an industrial architecture – but on the contrary, Stavanger is a lovely town with a lovely harbour area and the charming old town “Gamle Stavanger”, the oldest residential area with some 150 wooden houses that have been carefully restored.

Here we host a broad selection of activities, the most popular being fjord sightseeing to the Lysefjord which may feature a barbeque at Helleren with its sandy beach fitted for bathing, but also other games and activities can be arranged here.
Lysefjord is probably better known as the location of the Pulpit Rock, which towers an awesome 600 meters above the fjord.
The discovery of oil in the North Sea led to Stavangers importance as the Oil Capital of Norway and a large number of International companies have got their offices in town and the international presence has lead to a wide variety of restaurants and a very vibrant nightlife!

We visited Stavanger in July 2010 to get an update on the city and our suppliers but also, of course, to visit Glad Mat – the biggest food festival in the Nordic countries and a huge feast.
On this visit to Stavanger we, among others, had the pleasure of meeting with chefs from Gastronomisk Institutt (culinary institute and a national center of excellence for food professionals) visiting their tent at Glad Mat – a tent where also the Gordon Ramsay show was set up! And we were happy to assist of course!
We also had the pleasure of discovering a hidden gem outside the city; a small village that we reached by speedboat. Tranquility, grazing cows, a farm with warmest atmosphere, superb food of local ingredients, a plunge in the heated pool and home-brewed beer – here is so much to enjoy! Here we also went on a salmon safari; equipped with survival suit, snorkel and mask we flew through the rapids of the river and we were lucky to see several fish in a fantastic underwater world with deep “valleys” and fascinating stones.
